Tarishi Jain began her academic journey at the Government
College of Architecture in Lucknow, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in
Architecture. Eager to deepen her expertise, she pursued a Master’s degree in
Building Engineering and Management at the School of Planning and Architecture
in New Delhi. These educational experiences laid a robust foundation for her
future endeavors in both architecture and entrepreneurship.
From Architect to Entrepreneur
After completing her education, Tarishi worked as an
associate architect in various firms, including Jayesh Parikh Associates and m
a architects. During her time in these roles, she participated in numerous
landmark projects across India, where she gained valuable insights into project
management, client relations, and architectural design. However, she soon
discovered a passion beyond traditional architecture: creating unique clothing
for children.
The Spark of Inspiration
The idea for Ajoobaa was ignited when Tarishi received a
special gift from her mother—a beautifully crafted crochet dress for her baby.
Captivated by its charm, she began experimenting with crochet herself,
designing clothing for her little one. Friends and family admired her creations
and expressed interest in having similar outfits for their children, prompting
Tarishi to consider turning this passion into a business.
Launching Ajoobaa
In July 2018, Tarishi co-founded Ajoobaa with her husband,
Nivesh Arora, who brought valuable business experience from his time at Amazon.
Together, they aimed to revolutionize the handmade kidswear industry, focusing
on high-quality, comfortable crochet and knitted apparel. Their goal was
ambitious: to become the world’s number one handmade kidswear brand.

Ajoobaa quickly gained traction, tapping into the booming
children’s clothing market, valued at $14.9 billion in 2019. The startup

Woonie, a brand that connects 112 crochet artisans, primarily women, under the
guidance of 12 female leaders. This network fosters a supportive environment
where artisans can share their skills, gain confidence, and earn an income
while balancing family responsibilities. The joy of seeing artisans achieve
personal milestones, like purchasing bicycles for their children, motivated
Tarishi to continue this initiative.
Expanding Product Lines
While crocheted apparel is often associated with winter,
Ajoobaa expanded its offerings to include summer wear. This strategic move
ensured that the brand could serve its customers year-round. Their products are
priced between Rs 149 and Rs 2,000, making them accessible to a wider audience.
Ajoobaa also ensures a seamless shopping experience by selling its items
through various e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, Flipkart, Ajio, and
Myntra.

Tarishi’s commitment to quality and variety has set Ajoobaa
apart in the crowded kidswear market. The startup manages around 250 orders
daily, showcasing a broad selection of comfortable, stylish clothing for
