water network, he and his team proposed a groundbreaking idea: converting air
into drinkable water, leveraging Kochi's high humidity levels.

creativity. Kochi faced challenges with its water supply, particularly due to
saline groundwater contamination. His idea was inspired by a childhood
fascination with science fiction, particularly the concept of harnessing

bring the concept to life.
Early Challenges

anything but smooth. The team encountered numerous obstacles, including
technological limitations and questions about the practical applications of
their concept. They collaborated with a Canadian nonprofit organization,
Waterlution, and traveled across various Indian states, including Gujarat and
Rajasthan, to understand the real-world challenges related to water scarcity.
Ground Realities
During their explorations, Swapnil and his team were shocked by the lack of accessible water in some regions. Many bore wells were dry even at depths of 10,000 feet, and where water was available, its quality was often poor. These realities reinforced the urgent need for innovative solutions to water scarcity, further motivating Swapnil to pursue his vision of capturing moisture from the air.

The Road to Prototyping
In 2018, after years of brainstorming and experimentation,
the team created their first prototype. They entered an international
competition organized by Xprize and emerged as winners, securing a grant of
$50,000. This funding served as a vital starting point for Uravu Labs, allowing
them to fully commit to their mission of developing renewable water technology.
Breakthrough Technology
Uravu Labs was officially founded in March 2017, and the
team worked diligently to refine their technology. Their breakthrough system
uses atmospheric moisture to produce potable water using 100% renewable energy.
By 2019, their prototype could extract 5 liters of water per day, a promising
